Award-winning manufacturer Andel is leading the field in leak detection and water conservation, helping to protect the environment across the globe.
Based in Dodworth, Andel was established in 1992 and specialises in leak detection, water sustainability, flood defence and environmental protection.
The company is supporting organisations worldwide to prevent damage, reduce risk and fulfil their environmental and regulatory responsibilities including Net Zero targets.
Managing Director Peter Double has witnessed much of Andel’s growth over its 34-year history. He joined the business after leaving university where he gained a degree in electronic and electrical systems engineering followed by a masters in control engineering.
Having risen through the ranks, Peter oversees a 100-strong workforce responsible for manufacturing its innovative leak prevention and flood defence products and installing them at sites across the UK and abroad.
Andel’s expansion has been supported by investment from Finance Yorkshire’s growth fund totalling £1.5 million. The investment, in 2023 and 2025, has backed the company during key milestones in its growth.
Peter said: “The investment was key to enabling us to restructure the business and push forward.”
Andel’s breadth of work covers blue-chip, public and private sector organisations, critical infrastructure projects and heritage buildings. Clients include the NHS, Network Rail, Amazon, Google and BT.
Andel’s innovative control panels are designed to detect oil, water or gas leaks in the built environment. “Everything we do is about water in some way whether that be internal or external flooding, water conservation or preventing the contamination of water by oil,” said Peter.
A major contract with Scottish and Southern Energy (SSE) demonstrates Andel’s innovative and technical expertise and reputation as a leader in its field.
The contract involves preventing oil contamination from electrical substations across 35 sites managed by SSE.
Andel is fabricating and installing ‘ReBund’, a sustainable recycled plastic alternative to a concrete bund, used to contain any leaks from the oil-cooled transformers - a requirement of the Scottish Environment Protection Agency.
In conjunction with this, Andel is installing its innovative BundGuard product to ensure rainwater is pumped out of the bund and an early warning of any oil leak is provided.
Water leak detection is also a focus of Andel’s work particularly with the increasing development of new business office buildings. Andel already works with data centre operators and expects the continued growth of the sector to create further opportunities both in the UK and worldwide.
Peter said: “By their nature, data centres need water to keep them cool and they are becoming a focus area for us both in the UK and worldwide. Our products are capable of addressing the issues perfectly.”
Andel has achieved a raft of awards for its innovation in manufacturing born out of its own dedicated R&D function. Last year the company won Insider’s Made In Yorkshire Manufacturing Innovation Award for its pioneering FloodAlert system.
Andel posted turnover of £11m at the end of March 2026 - £1m was in the export of its products. The company is projecting £14m in March 2027 with an increase in export to £1.5m.
By March 2028, Andel is forecasting more than £20m as it consolidates its UK market and achieves a wider global footprint.
