Award win for Finance Yorkshire

Finance Yorkshire triumphed at the York Press Business Awards 2015, winning the Corporate Investment category.

The Press Business Awards – now in their 25th year – attracted entries across 16 categories. The Corporate Investment Award was a new category for 2015.

More than 400 people attended the black tie event at York Racecourse. Finance Yorkshire Chief Executive Alex McWhirter was presented with the Corporate Investment Award by Tony Farmer, Corporate Finance Partner at JWP Creers Chartered Accountants, sponsors of the category.

Alex said: “This is a superb award win for Finance Yorkshire and further recognition for our excellent investment track record which has enabled businesses across Yorkshire and Humber to expand and create growth and jobs.

“We are continuing to invest in companies to help them achieve their aspirations while delivering more prosperity and jobs to the regional economy.”

Tony Farmer said: “Finance Yorkshire has demonstrated its significant commitment to corporate investment in our region across a wide range of businesses and sectors in an outstanding fashion. They are deserving first winners of the award.”

To date Finance Yorkshire has invested £97m, enabling companies to increase their turnover by £352 million and attract a further £187 million from other private sector sources. Through this activity, Finance Yorkshire investment has helped those SMEs to create and safeguard more than 10,670 jobs in Yorkshire and the Humber.

Finance Yorkshire provides seedcorn, loan and equity linked investments, ranging from £15,000 to £2m to help a range of small and medium sized businesses to meet their funding requirements for growth and development.

The project is supported financially by the European Union. It has attracted investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme, UK Government and match funding from the European Investment Bank.
