Finance Yorkshire Seedcorn role for Julian

Julian Viggars heads up the Finance Yorkshire Seedcorn team

Julian Viggars is to head Finance Yorkshire’s Seedcorn Fund investment team.

Julian has been at Enterprise Ventures (EV), which manages the Seedcorn Fund, for more than nine years and will remain with EV as head of the technology investment team.

Previously he was a Director of BioProjects International plc, an AIM-listed early stage technology fund, and an associate partner with accountancy firm NCL Smith & Williamson in London.

Investment Director Julian said: “I was involved in the development of the Seedcorn Fund for both Finance Yorkshire and its predecessor South Yorkshire Investment Fund, so I am fully aware of the support it has provided, and continues to provide, to businesses across the region.

“With extensive knowledge of the venture capital marketplace across the UK, the Seedcorn team is well placed to identify new investment opportunities and support the fund’s existing investments, continuing the good work which has already been undertaken.

“We are seeking to find proven, experienced entrepreneurs and mentors who are looking to build the next big businesses that the region will be proudly associated with.”

The Seedcorn Finance team has invested more than £4million in 18 companies, with a number of further deals in the pipeline.

Seedcorn investments up to £780,000 can be made in businesses through incremental stages to reflect the growth and maturity of the company. Managers have access to syndicate funds to allow further investment to be made over the lifetime of the company.

Finance Yorkshire provides seedcorn, loan and equity linked investments, ranging from £15,000 to £2m to help a range of small and medium sized businesses to meet their funding requirements for growth and development.

The project is supported financially by the European Union. It has attracted £30million investment from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) as part of Europe’s support for the region’s economic development through the Yorkshire and Humber ERDF Programme, £15million from Yorkshire Forward’s Single Programme, and £45million match funding from the European Investment Bank.
